Handcrafted Writing Pens

Made from Crushed Maine Shells, Locally Sourced Soft and Hard Woods, plus Acrylics

Maine artist, David Tabbutt, transforms the ordinary into unique, timeless and useful pieces of art. David rediscovered his love for wood turning in his retirement, after 40 years in the boat business. Creating beautiful pieces from various materials, his workmanship and passion for this art shows in each individual and unique pen he makes. After a series of trial and error, turning bowls, candlesticks, and ornaments he began to lose interest in these items. That’s when he discovered pen-making. “I had purpose; I wanted to make useful, ornate items.” Now he has mastered the art, creating pens from various types of woods including vast assortment of local Maine wood. At the suggestion of Lisa-Marie’s, he took on the challenge of using crushed lobster, mussel and clam shells in his work.  Each pen requires numerous steps to complete, and are one of a kind. Wishing you many years of pleasure when using these pens!
