Mainely Pens consist of two families (Shepard's & Tirrell's) sharing a love for making and crafting pens, and such projects. Steve Shepard the senior pen turner of Mainely Pens, is a retired Navy Chief. With many years of service to this great country. Steve recently moved back to Maine after retiring. He says the beautiful and peaceful nature of the area drew him back. Steve has a passion for making pens, that is contagious. This is how his business partner Rod Tirrell Jr got his start.
Rod got started by watching Steve do his thing with the lathe. He was hooked from there. Together they have came up with some great ideas for pushing the envelope in pen making. There simply is nothing that they wont try to make into a pen. They both love Maine, and are trying to incorparate that into there pen making skills. We currently make Deer, and Moose pens, and are trying to expand into getting alittle more exotic. For example (keeping Maine in mind), Lobster shells, Pine Needles, Clam Shells, Crab Shells, Indiginous Woods, Black Flies, etc... As you can probably see, it's only limited by your imagination!

Maybe for a memorial, or keepsake. Lets say your grandfather has passed away, and you would love to have something to remember him by. Maybe you have something that might seem useless, but possibly might be able to turn into a pen that you could carry with you where ever you may go. Steve has done just this for his sibblings. He had his Mothers old dining set, it wasnt much to look at, but they had great emotional attachment to it. Steve made several pens out of the legs of one of the chairs and gave one to each of his siblings to remember there Mother by, and keep that thought nearby. This is just one idea, how about these? Flowers from funeral, or other important event. Old medal or ribbons. Dad's old bowling ball. Mom's old purse. Any cloth of any sort. Leather, snake skin, spark plug wire, pictures, I think you get the idea now. It's really anything you can think of. If you have a crazy of the wall idea, we want to hear it!
